ABOUT SHEEPISHLY EWE

Rose has created her range of soaps from the milk of her own flock of sheep.  Here, Rose tells us a little of the lives some of her flock.

TIA

Tia came to us as an orphan from a nearby farm. Having just lost a lamb from my own ewe it was hoped that Tia would take that ones place, but unfortunately that didn’t work.

I became Tia’s surrogate mother hand-raising her in the house until she no longer needed constant feeding.  She is a fully grown member of my flock now, a lovely girl who has grown so big that she sometimes knocks me over when I enter the field with a bucket of food. She’s provided me with two lambs from my Swiss Valais Blacknose ram.  Tia produces the most amazing creamy rich milk which makes perfect luxurious soap.

DISCO

Disco was born during a terrible storm to one of my Greyface Dartmoor ewes.  The poor little lamb was extremely wet and had to be put into a shelter with her mum to recover.

She soon dried off and became a healthy strong lamb.  Disco’s dramatic start in life was a story I told many of my friends, and Monique became regular visitor.   Monique works with our local charity called “Disc” which collects and distributes food to families struggling through the cost of living crisis.

Monique fell in love with my rapidly growing lamb and decided to become her sponsor.  Yes, you’ve guessed it:  Monique and I decided name the lamb “Disco” in honour of the charity.

Sponsorship means we get trays of veg and fruit that is just a little bit too far past its sell by date for human use. The sheep love this, their favourites are bananas, cauliflowers and carrots. Disco is two years old now and so we’re hoping she will have a lamb this year and produce some lovely milk for us.

MRS RED TAGS

Mrs Red Tags is my only remaining pedigree Greyface Dartmoor ewe.   She’s getting older at 7 years, but we are really hoping she will be with us for a good few more years to come.  She didn’t have a lamb last year but hopefully after the break she will have one this year.
